no.problem.i.can.walk

today's my last bwc event n it also marks e first & last time that i've been tasked to b e last walker (i've nvr walked during bwc events as i had to run ard to ensure things were done).. anyhows, i wanted to share abt wat i saw dis morning..

being e last walker, i had to ensure that no participants r left behind n to 'collect' e safety marshals.. as i was e emcee, i had to catch up w e last few walkers so that i noe that i'm def e last walker..

i caught up w this couple - e middle-aged guy was walking w a limp n beside him was his wife (i think).. i had thought that this couple was not part of our group as they didn't don our tshirt but i decided to ask to make sure.. i was wrong.. they ARE part of the 2,000 participants there for e 3-km walk.. as e uncle was walking w a limp, they were e last two walkers thus i decided to stick to them just to ensure that e uncle can manage.. oh, e uncle seemed to have been injured before as he couldn't really move much of his left side..

e uncle even shared that he went to our office to try n look for a job.. he was offered one but decided nt to take up as it required him to handle cash which he wasn't v comfortable w.. i was also taken aback that he is still actively looking for a job despite his physical limitation.. i salute him..

e walk was filled with slopes, both up and down.. at every slope, i'd ask e uncle if he can manage, he said, 'no problem.. i can do it, will just be slower..' and concentrated on his walking.. his wife wld always hold out her hand for him to support whenever they hit e slopes.. i was quite touched when i saw this scene..

e uncle also felt apologetic that he was holding me up due to his pace but i reassured him every time n rephrased wat he told me - 'no problem.. wat matters is we complete the walk, no matter how slow or fast..' he gave me a smile.. =)

it was probably at abt e mid-point dat i had to tend to an elderly n evacuate her out as she couldn't carry on w the walk.. i asked e couple if they wanted to stop walking n catch e ambulance together but e uncle maintained his statement that he can complete e walk.. hence, i told a volunteer to help me b the last walker and see that the couple reach e end point.. thereafter, i zoomed out to arrange for e ambulance to fetch e senior..

at e end point while dashing here n there, i saw e same couple reaching e distribution point (which was near e end point).. i was so happy for him that i shouted YEAH! i was proud of him dat he completed the 3-km walk n v happy to see his smiley face dat was filled w accomplishment.. =D

i learnt 2 valuable lessons fr this couple:
1. to always believe dat u can reach ur destination n nt b dampened by hw much time u take;
2. as a lifetime partner, we shld always b ready to stretch out our hand to support each other during difficult times..

to e uncle: shld u b recovering fr injuries, i wish u a speedy recovery.. may u also get a job dat is suitable.. i applaude ur determination n strength.. thank u.. =)

sometimes looking at people like them, it makes you ashamed to be able bodied, doesn't it?

we take things for granted too much..
